How To Prepare For Your Photoshoot
Hello everyone, Olivia here!
I'm so excited to have you coming to my studio for a photoshoot. I want to make sure you're fully prepared and feel as comfortable as possible during your session, so here are some tips to get you started.
Clothing
Firstly, let's talk about clothing. My style is all about neutral tones, so I highly recommend wearing white, creams, beiges, and browns. These colours will help keep the focus on you and your family, and also look great when printed on the wall! However, if you love bright colours, don't hesitate to wear them too!
I always encourage my clients to dress comfortably, so please avoid anything that may make you feel self-conscious. If you're comfortable and confident, it will show in the photos! A simple top paired with denim jeans is always a great go-to option. This classic look is versatile and can be dressed up or down with accessories. If you're not sure what to wear, don't worry - I'm happy to give you some suggestions.
In addition, we recommend that you ensure your faces are clean and your fingernails are trimmed and tidy. Don't worry too much about any blemishes or minor imperfections, as these can be easily edited out using Photoshop if needed.
The Shoot
Next, let's talk about the shoot itself. My style is all about capturing candid moments, natural smiles, and active poses. We'll be playing games and having fun, so get ready to be silly and let loose! Don't worry if you're not used to being in front of the camera - I'll guide you through everything and make sure you're comfortable every step of the way.
If you're bringing children to the shoot, here are some things to keep in mind. Make sure they're well-rested and fed before the session - a hungry or overtired child can be difficult to work with! Also, bring any favourite toys or props that you'd like to include in the photos. I love incorporating personal touches like this into the shoot.
Cakesmash
Choose a cute outfit: It's important to select a cute outfit that you don't mind getting dirty. A romper or a tutu are perfect choices for a cakesmash photoshoot. Even just a plain white vest or some cute dungarees. You don't need a special outfit for the Cake Smash as it's all about the cake and the fun. We have lots of time for some non-birthday themed photos so bring along a few outfit changes!
Bring extra clothes: You may want to bring a change of clothes for after the photoshoot, especially if you have other plans for the day.
Although we don't provide the cake, we recommend some great places to get one in the Hastings area. We suggest a simple white or cream cake with soft butter icing.
Bring along some toys: Toys can be helpful in keeping your child entertained during the photoshoot, and can also be used as props in the photos.
Be ready for mess: Cakesmash photoshoots can get messy! We'll provide a clean-up area, but be prepared to get a little messy. Please note that we will take care of all the cleaning, so don't worry about the mess.
We will have plenty of time to get family photos before the big smash, so come photo ready yourself!
Maternity
Preparing for a maternity photoshoot can be both exciting and overwhelming, especially if it's your first time. But don't worry, I'm here to guide you through the process and help you capture these precious moments before your little one arrives.
When it comes to clothing, I recommend choosing outfits that showcase your beautiful bump. A pair of jeans paired with a simple bralette is a great option for a casual and comfortable look. Flowy dresses are also a popular choice, as they accentuate your curves and add a touch of elegance to the photos. Bodycon dresses are a great option if you want to show off your bump more prominently.
Accessories are also a great way to add a personal touch to your photos. Hats, scarves, and jewelry can all add a unique touch to your outfit and make your photos stand out. I also recommend bringing along any sentimental items, such as baby shoes or a special blanket, to incorporate into the photos.
It's also important to remember to take care of yourself leading up to the shoot. Getting plenty of rest, staying hydrated, and eating healthy will help you feel your best and give you that beautiful pregnancy glow.
During the shoot, I'll guide you through a variety of poses that showcase your bump and capture candid moments with your partner and/or family. And don't worry about any imperfections - I can always edit them out using Photoshop if needed.
Newborn
Preparing for a newborn photoshoot is an exciting time, but it can also be a little overwhelming. As a photographer who specializes in capturing those first precious moments of your baby's life, I want to make sure you are well-prepared for your photoshoot.
Firstly, it's important to know that my style is all about neutral and natural tones, with a focus on capturing your baby in their purest form. So, when it comes to clothing, less is more. I have plenty of nappy covers and swaddles to keep your baby comfortable and covered up as needed.
It's also important to note that we will take family photos during the session, so it's a good idea to bring some simple, neutral clothing options for yourselves. This will ensure that the focus remains on your baby while still creating beautiful, cohesive images.
If you're not feeling your best after giving birth, don't worry! We can still get some beautiful shots of your baby with our popular silhouette shot. It's a timeless and stunning way to capture the essence of your new arrival.
It's important to trust me and my expertise in capturing those first precious moments of your baby's life. I have years of experience working with newborns, and I will take the utmost care to ensure your baby is comfortable and safe throughout the session.
Lastly, don't stress! The most important thing is to have fun and enjoy the experience. I'm here to capture beautiful, memorable photos of you and your family, and I promise to make it a fun and stress-free experience for everyone involved.
I can't wait to see you in the studio!
